EMDR Emotional Processing

Getting past your past!

EMDR helps "turn down the volume" on intense emotions by activating both sides of the brain through bilateral stimulation. This engages both hemispheres at once, allowing for faster processing. It targets the trauma network in the brain, clearing the emotional charge and moving the experience from emotional reaction to logical understanding—bringing a sense of relief. It helps you stop reliving the trauma as if it just happened. Once healing is complete, you can look back and acknowledge the pain, but without feeling it. The negative thoughts about yourself and the world fade away, replaced by new, positive beliefs and emotions.

How is EMDR Different from other Therapies?

EMDR addresses major and minor traumas, irrational emotions, phobias, panic attacks, and anxiety.. Much of my work focuses on helping people heal from negative beliefs formed through years of harmful experiences.

Unlike traditional therapy, EMDR doesn’t require detailed discussions or homework between sessions. It has been scientifically proven to resolve issues three times faster than conventional talk therapy.

Who can benefit from EMDR therapy?

EMDR therapy helps children and adults of all ages.

“Processing” isn’t about talking it out; it’s about creating a learning state that allows your brain to "digest" troubling experiences. This means useful lessons from those experiences are stored with the right emotions, helping guide you positively in the future. Negative emotions, beliefs, and physical sensations are released. The goal of EMDR is to leave you with healthier emotions, insights, and perspectives that lead to more positive behaviors and interactions.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • How often should I do EMDR to get the best result?

Treatment can be very rapid, however, the number of sessions will vary, according to the complexity of the issues being dealt with. After an EMDR session, there may be a strong sense of relief, a feeling of openness and healing. EMDR therapy is cost effective, requiring fewer sessions than traditional therapy. Relief from emotional distress often comes within the first few sessions.

  • How many EMDR Sessions will I need? EMDR therapy can work for some issues, such as a specific anxiety or phobia, in just a few sessions. More often, it takes place over a series of sessions based upon an eight phase system which has been tried and tested. While there is no one size fits all you can typically expect 1-2 times per week for 6-12 sessions.

  • How much does EMDR cost and how long is each session?

The first session is a history-taking session(s). We will identify possible targets for EMDR processing. These include distressing memories and current situations that are causing emotional distress. I will also teach you important resourcing techniques, which help calm the “fear centre” of the brain and keep us grounded in the present. These techniques can be used in the context of EMDR, or as daily practices to reduce your stress and anxiety. The first session is 75-90 minutes and costs $75. Additional sessions are $60 and last an hour.

  • Who can do EMDR? EMDR can be used on anyone from 5 years of age and up. Teenagers respond particularly well as you only need to go over the “headlines” of your issue and not spend a lot of time in the details and re-trigger yourself.

  • Why am I adding EMDR to my offerings? I’m an ND, MH, and CNHP with over 20 years of experience, specializing in emotional health and wellbeing. My motto has always been, “There’s an emotional root to every physical issue.” I’m trained in the Emotion Code, Body Code, and EFT, but what I’ve found with EMDR is that it’s not only an exceptional tool for emotional wellness—it helps identify and neutralize root issues much faster.

  • Is EMDR in person only or can I do it on line? EMDR can be done either in person or via tele health on line! We are able to see one another just as if we were sitting across from each other. I am excited to offer this versatility to ensure everyones comfort:) Clients are having outstanding results with both and many prefer being in the comfort of their home to do EMDR.
